The Fortress of Gabba is Down
It’s been a while but it still feels like yesterday when Indian Cricket Team breached the fortress of Gabba. The Australians were dismantled and destroyed by a bunch of rookies.
The best player was away, the batting line-up was devastated by the Australian bowling attack in the first match itself, team was fighting countless injuries, international pundits had declared Australia whitewashing, but the Indians didn’t surrender. Every session a new Hero stood up and fought so hard as if his life and death was dependent on it.
The start of the journey was heart-breaking when we lost the first match with a really embarrassing difference. Legends like Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting predicted Australia clean sweeping the series after India lost the match. But the key is to learn from the past mistakes and ensure they aren’t repeated. In the second test at Melbourne the stand in captain Ajinkya Rahane took the charge and scored a ton to boost the morale of the team from then team never looked back, with some really disciplined bowling and fielding India won that match and levelled the series.
The next match was at the SCG and the hosts were far ahead in game after Steve Smith scored a century and lethal bowling which after that gave hosts a lead of a massive 96 runs in the first innings and finally setting a target of 400+ runs to win the match. The target looked achievable when Rishabh Pant smashed Nathan Lyon and other bowlers alongside Pujara who stood like a stone between the wicket and the bowler but unfortunately both of them were sent back to the dressing room. Suddenly Australia was back in the game but the injured duo of Ashwin and Hanuma vihari had different plans they played rather defended 259 bowls to draw the test match.
The Series finale was played in Gabba the fortress which was invincible according to them. There was no Virat, no Ashwin, no Jadeja, no Bumrah and no Ishant just to name a few. Basically, Australia played against India A. The match was very unpredictable from the start and both the teams tried their best to be in the game. Long story short India needed 327 to create history and we created it credit to Shubman Gill, Pujara, Pant, Siraj we won the match and defeated the mighty Australians on their so-called invincible ground and sealed the series 2-1.
The emotions which poured out from the hearts of each Indian were no less than the world cup victory of 2011. It was a series full of drama nothing less than avengers or mission impossible. This shows the talent youngsters have got. I have tears in my eyes as I recall those moments and my heart shout only one word INDIAAA INDIAAAA….
SUMMARY
A story on how India won a test series rather hearts of more than a billion people. How the Australians were. destroyed on their own soil. And how Indian team fought and fought so hard that no one could defeat them.
