Helping Hands for Wayanad

On August 9th 2024, The Rotaract Club of RVCE collaborated with NSS RVCE to conduct the “Wayanad Flood Relief Program,” which aimed to mitigate the damage of the floods at the Wayanad district in Kerala, providing much-needed aid to those suffering from this crisis. The devastating floods in Wayanad left many without homes and necessities, whose struggle touched the hearts of many volunteers at RVCE. The event took place at the Bengaluru Art of Living Centre, where 10 volunteers from the Rotaract Club of RVCE and NSS RVCE provided essential aid and supplies. They packaged grocery kits, umbrellas, clothing, and essentials such as sweaters and blankets meant to ease the burden of recovery for the victims of this crisis.

As the grocery kits were packed, the volunteers felt that hope itself was being bundled up, the more work they did, the accomplished they felt. The solidarity showcased by the volunteers was a sight to behold, with their shared purpose to support the needy acting as their drive to work. The dedication of not just the 10 volunteers from the Rotaract Club of RVCE, but all the participants on the day of the event was truly inspiring, as they poured their energy into making each kit a meaningful gift to those in need. The devastating floods of Wayanad were a call for action for all of us, and the contributions that we could make, as a community were of paramount importance. Moreover, in the long term, the program seeks to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of affected communities by supporting rebuilding efforts, promoting mental health care, and facilitating access to government relief funds.

The relief program was not just about providing immediate support to those in need, but also about reflecting on our responsibilities as individuals and communities to band together and uplift each other in times of hardship. Rtr. Anoushka, a volunteer at the event, says, “The event allowed me to help our community in ways I could not have imagined. The pride and relief I feel when helping others are unmatched by any work I do.” Another volunteer, Rtr. Mukund, says, “I am glad I got to be part of an event as noble as this. I feel honoured to help others in whatever way I can.” This enthusiasm and dedication to helping others are commendable and are a key pillar of the Rotaract movement.

The Rotaract Club of RVCE feels pride at having taken part in such a significant event for community service. To do our best towards supporting the community and its development, 150 volunteer hours were put into this task by the 10 volunteers and 20 participants. The drive and will to help others was the key to making this event a success story, and the Rotaract Club of RVCE is proud to showcase this event to the world. Hardworking Volunteers’ hours of combined effort yielded magical results. The Wayanad Flood Relief Project was a testament to the power of collective care and effort. Through the efforts of our hardworking volunteers and participants, the Rotaract Club of RVCE demonstrated great willingness and passion towards serving the community. This initiative is just one example of the ethos that The Rotaract Club of RVCE aims to promote in society, that is, one where communities band together for collective welfare, development, and harmony.
