Lila's Path To Wellness
Lila was that woman nobody knew what went on behind her face in that bustling city filled with car
horns and people racing, but no one really knew what went on behind the face she put up. About
mid-thirties now, she was focused on climbing that corporate ladder at that very prestigious
marketing firm. Everyone loved Lila; she was always a few minutes early, and nobody left the office
before she did. Meanwhile, as Lila poured herself into her job, her health slowly took a backseat.
Lila lives on takeout meals, fueled by coffee and late-night snacks, assured that sacrificing health was
part and parcel of the pursuit of success. Sometimes, she dismissed the occasional bouts of fatigue,
headaches, and restless nights as characteristics of a driven lifestyle. "I will rest when I am
successful," she would reassure herself while her body whispered for attention.
One fateful day, Lila fainted at her desk. The office was thrown into a frenzy as her coworkers rushed
to her side. After a visit to the hospital, she learned she had high blood pressure and early signs of
burnout. The doctor looked her in the eye and said, "Lila, you're not just working yourself too hard;
you're risking your health for a job that won't care if you're gone tomorrow.".
The words struck her like a lightning bolt. It was a harsh check into reality that forced Lila to stop and
think about what had been truly important to her. Encouraged by her family and friends, she realized
it was time for change. She then took a leave of absence and concentrated on improving herself-to
her physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Lila first started in a small way, preparing pretty simple meals using fresh ingredients. She really felt
that the kitchen was a strange country till she began to chop veggies and try experimenting through
recipes; the sense of nourishment she had begun to imbibe became a joy. She started exercising too
by taking lots and lots of long walks through the park close to where she stayed. She took deep
breaths as the sun set on her face while each stride felt freeing and helped her regain a sense of
being attuned with the body.
As Lila began to take care of her health, she started gaining clarity on what direction she was headed.
She started writing in a journal and began to explore beyond the corporate world and through there,
what once was a dream too far to reach became clear. She wanted a wellness center that would offer
healthy cooking, fitness classes, and workshops related to mental wellness to those who desired
guidance. She wanted everyone to walk along with her as part of her journey so that they'd learn to
understand that genuine wealth was held within great health and well-being.
After months of healing she decided to pay her boss a visit at the office and disclose the plans to him.
To her shock, her boss agreed with her and even offered to ease the burden by making her wellness
center initiation an easy process. "You have served well for this company, Lila, and it is now time you
followed your heart," he summed up with a beaming smile.
She opened a wellness center with such courage and determination where she could bring together
all such aged people who would learn to stay healthy in old age. She began cooking classes, yoga
sessions, and workshops to make people aware about the mental issues that are creating problems
in their lives. Lila inspired them to prefer health over career when she shared her story as well, so
that they could find balance and happiness in their lives.
And years went by, and Lila's wellness center became a haven for many—a place from which one
could learn self-care and reconnect with his true wealth. Success was no longer measured by her
putting on the corner office or bringing home a fat check, but by the lives she touched and the
community she built.
At the end, Lila had realized that, after all, health is indeed wealth, not only for her but for all those
who come through the doors of the center and look for a way towards a healthier and happier life.
